The challenge

Car park on 4,300 tonnes of concrete

Building a modern multi-storey car park measuring 75 metres in length, 33 metres in width and 21 metres in height is no small undertaking. Especially when you bear in mind that its foundations consist of a total of 700 tonnes of steel and over 4,300 tonnes of concrete. Prangl was commissioned with the construction and devised a customised concept for all lifting and assembly work for the client.

Our solution

Mobile construction crane with crawler chassis

A mobile construction crane on a crawler chassis was the "star" of the construction site. Its exceptional mobility, high load capacity and compact design proved to be ideal for this project. The crane lifts up to 18 tonnes from a radius of 14.6 metres and can even lift 5.5 tonnes at a maximum radius of 42 metres.

A special advantage: The crane can move around the construction site on its own without having to be taken apart - a crucial plus point when construction progress is constantly changing, something that was the case on this large construction site.

Precision lift

The mobile construction crane handled all the lifting work - especially the lifting and positioning of steel structures, formwork elements and concrete parts. The most spectacular lift involved a structure consisting of three pre-assembled steel supports: Measuring 21 metres in length, 5.5 metres in width and weighing around 6 tonnes, the massive component hovered in one piece to its final destination. The mobile construction crane and crane operator also mastered this precision lift with ease and positioned the centrepiece of the future multi-storey car park with pinpoint accuracy.

Aerial work platforms and telehandlers

The additional aerial work platforms (telescopic boom lifts with a reach of 28 metres, scissor lifts with a working height of 6 metres), a telehandler (2.5 tonne load capacity and 6 metre telescopic length) and an articulating boom lift provided ideal support for the large crane. This meant that the telescopic boom lifts were used for assembly work at height, e.g. for attaching façade elements or installing building services components. The scissor lifts were used for activities at low heights, such as laying cables or installation work on ceilings. The small, lightweight scissor lifts impressed with their compactness and manoeuvrability on the intermediate floors.

Device combination as a success factor

The extremely clever combination of devices ensured a smooth process in every phase of the multi-storey car park construction. The assignment was "logistically exciting" for the Prangl team, "since the large crane had to be moved flexibly in a confined space and during ongoing construction work - without any intermediate dismantling. The combination of the high load capacity and mobility of the crane proved to be a real success factor." The client also reaped the benefits of this successful concept. The construction of the multi-storey car park proceeded swiftly without any problems. And Prangl was able to celebrate a follow-up order thanks to the favourable cooperation.

A strong crane, a strong partner – sometimes all it takes is the right lever to accomplish great things.
